Welcome back.  🤗

So this is how fat works.  Part II.  😎

There are fatty acids called omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9.  They’re essential, which means they’re needed for many functions in the body, but the body cannot manufacture them.  So we must get them from our diet on a daily basis.

They are needed for prostaglandin function, which regulates pain & swelling in the body, maintains blood pressure, regulates our cholesterol and assists with nerve transmission.

You need them in about a 2 to 1 ratio (2 o-6 & o-9 to 1 o-3).  The problem is that, as Omega-6’s & 9’s increase beyond this ratio, so does inflammation.  The average Western diet contains a ratio of 20 (omega-6’s) to 1 (omega-3’s).  😳  Very very inflammatory.

Just remember that a brain, rich in omega-3 fats will perform better than a brain, rich in omega-6 fats.

You can lower this ratio by avoiding corn and soy fed meat, and GMO vegetable oils like, soybean oil, corn oil, and canola.  These are harder to avoid when you are eating out, but at home you can eliminate them completely.  In fact, when you get home tonight, why not just throw those oils right in the trash and commit to avoiding them going forward. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This seemingly small act can change the trajectory of your health and energy levels.

If you are still not convinced, in the Sydney Diet Heart Study (a seven year randomized controlled trial in humans), increased consumption of vegetable oil was found to increase the risk of premature death by 62% – more than physical inactivity, heavy drinking, moderate smoking, increased sugar, processed meat or excessive sodium.  Sooooooo yeah.  They’re not good for you. 🤯

You can replace them with avocado oil, coconut oil, pastured butter & ghee for cooking, and extra virgin olive oil for salads and drizzling.

Personally, I went back and forth with olive oil for a long time because I loved cooking with it, but also because there can be so much conflicting information out there, you don’t always know what to do.  But now coconut oil has seamlessly woven its way into my cooking.

Choose organic oils to minimize your exposure to pesticides.  Also, oils are not like wine; they do not improve with age so don’t be afraid to purge as necessary.  👀

All oils have a smoke point.  This is the point when it will start to burn and produce smoke.  These fumes are toxic so you don’t want to heat oils higher than their smoke point.

One last thing.  Don’t buy oil in plastic containers because the plastic leaches into the oil.  That is all.  😎

You’re probably thinking that I skipped over a bunch of stuff.  And I did.  But you only need to take the next right step in the direction of improved health.   So good luck.  I’ll talk to you soon…
