Have you ever thought about how your childhood experiences with food shaped your “food story” today?
I grew up in a house with a mom that didn’t like to cook. She definitely had her specialties but she wasn’t what you would call passionate about cooking.
Looking back, I realize that my food story as a child played a significant role in shaping my eating habits, likes, and dislikes today.
It taught me the importance of fresh ingredients, the joy of cooking, and the value of trying new things. It also helped me to overcome my picky(ish) eating habits and to develop a more adventurous palate, even with “texture issues”. 😎
One thing I will always be grateful for was that we were raised to eat good food and balanced meals. We had meat, a starch and two veggies (or a veggie and a salad) most nights. My mother and grandmother were both very big on vitamin and mineral supplements. To this day, I cannot mention to my mother that I am stressed without her asking me if I’m taking my Vitamin B! 😂
I always joke that with kids you just do what you think is best and then hope for the best, and with every year that passes, it occurs to me that I somewhere along the way, I’ve turned into the women that raised me.
In recent years, learning more about the impact food has on our body, our mind, our sleep and longevity, has lit a fire under me to do everything I can to be vibrant, energetic and strong (especially as I get older 👀).
What is your food story? I’d love to hear it…
